This happened:

According to several sources (e.g. The Guardian), the US government “pressured multiple countries to withdraw their sponsorship of a leading European conference on #disinformation, with Canada, Lithuania and the EU’s diplomatic service subsequently agreeing to do so.”

Zelenskyy hit another Yandex data center in Russia, and I’m now hearing anecdotal reports that (pro-Republican) bot traffic has gone down considerably.

There is probably never going to be another opportunity like this to study the impact that shutting down this data center has on disinformation bots. I’m looking forward to reading about how many seemingly US-local conservative accounts are actually sock-puppeted from Russia.

It would be sweet irony to learn that Zelenskyy has saved the US midterms by stemming the flow of disinformation, because we damn well know Republicans won’t do the job.

@pait@mastodon.social Zelenskyy remaining on X is something I find difficult to understand, given Ukraine’s extensive experience in dealing with disinformation.

Again, my point is: if Trump can communicate through his own social media platform and media outlets still follow and report what he says there, why wouldn’t the same happen if another major political leader moved elsewhere?

The information itself has value. If millions of people are interested in what a political leader has to say, journalists will follow it wherever it is published.

“Germany has numerous research activities addressing different dimensions of #misinformation & #disinformation. But who is doing what? Where are the competencies? Where do projects overlap? Where are important gaps?”

Looking forward to discussing these questions (& a couple more) at the “From Prompt to Propaganda” workshop hosted by @informatik@mas.to at @tudresden@wisskomm.social on September 22nd.
