Haithabu nahe Schleswig: super Rollenspielsetting!
I like the GURPS system in general because I like that it’s universal, that it’s classless, and that almost everything is a question of rolling 3d6 against your skill level.
But I find the combat system - even Combat Lite - to be difficult to wrestle with.
I guess I will just have to wing it, but it feels a little weird that everything else is so simple and then BOOM you go to 1 second rounds, stances, maneuvers, and fairly complicated combat logic.
3 days ago I decided to start up the GURPS Crusades campaign, and like usual I end up getting obsessed with prep to a degree where I can think of nothing else. Ah well.
Done with Act 1 - should be 2-3 play sessions. Very little fighting, very little magic and that sort of thing, hope they like it though…
Starting up a new GURPS campaign with my eldest and her two friends, set during the crusades. One plays a stuttering norman knight, one plays a bookish benedictine scholar with a bad temper, and one plays a forest outlaw bowman with godlike looks.
Should be fun!
I don’t have a lot of GMing experience, but we’ll learn as we go along.
