I’m slowly getting back to #HolosSocial and #CastLab.
I’ve seen people say Holos is now closed source. That’s not the case. It’s still on the official #FDroid, built from source. My custom repo just runs alongside it for faster updates and betas.
I’ve never released an app or server version without publishing the source code first, and I never will. Open source isn’t a label. It’s code you can read before you install an app or use a service.

I created a library to use the AIDL service from #CastLab and make things simpler for devs.
It works well, and I integrated it into a local build of #NewPipe for more extensive testing. I was able to cast a live video to #FCast.
Everything will be released soon in 1.7.0.
I am adding an AIDL service to #CastLab, so developers of gallery and video apps can add a cast button (no Google dependencies) and control playback on TVs, #FCast receivers and DLNA devices, without implementing the protocols or a local HTTP server themselves.
CastLab handles discovery, streaming and the notification controls, and stays in the background while the user keeps browsing the host app.
If you have an app that relies on alternative frontends such as #Invidious, #Nitter and others, it’s often hard to maintain a list of instances. I had that problem with #UntrackMe and #CastLab, so a CI job now runs every day to maintain a list of available instances.
I might add support for this to #Fedilab.

Just a small reminder, if you appreciate my work on my projects:

Thank you for considering it, if you can. Your support helps me keep going.
#CastLab 1.6.0 has been released. It brings several fixes and enhancements. You can now share from any app to cast with CastLab.
Videos shared from #NewPipe are automatically turned into Invidious ones, and the list of Invidious instances is kept up to date.
You can also cast your phone audio to a speaker.
And much more: codeberg.org/tom79/…
I was really surprised to see that the last release of #CastLab got more than 2300 downloads from #Codeberg

I will publish 1.6.0 soon to fix the open issues.
Also available on #FDroid: f-droid.org/packages/…
