What I’m doing with coffeebisquit is developing the static version now so that whenever enough features are implemented and the interface is finalized enough, I can do a federating, Go-based PeerTube alternative without too much trying to figure out how elements should look if I want to. I think it will be a few years before doing that since I want to do other stuff for a while, like videos, and I might work on it if I’m bored with everything else.

coffeebisquit version 0.1.1 has bug fixes for social media previews of links to channels, I fixed the documentation for and added license info to the homepage of gts-conduit, fixed search engine indexing on pages that aren’t unlisted videos, fixed torrent links for videos where the ID and videoroot differ, and have channel descriptions show up on social media, and other things. I switched to using XZ to save space.
Just found out about the voctoweb (the thing media.ccc.de uses) public JSON API and how it’s supported in NewPipe, giving me ideas.
Here’s the #coffeebisquit example website. I used a shorter video for my own stuff and reduced the Big Buck Bunny videos to 11-second clips using LosslessCut. Both the source and built versions are available separately for comparison on GitHub (the repo is 50 MB so I didn’t want to waste space on Codeberg). I built it with coffeebisquit 0.1.1 since there was a torrent link bug when “video-id” differs from “videoroot”.

Soon I plan to get an example website up for coffeebisquit, and then convert my PeerTube instance to use it instead and fix the certificates. Probably use GitHub Pages for the example site as I don’t want to waste Codeberg’s space and I’ll try to keep the video file size low. Will likely need to limit the length of the Big Buck Bunny example files, too, and I might switch out the Firefox video with a shorter/smaller one.
This is a present from me to you. Tonight I present the first version of coffeebisquit: a semi-static Jekyll theme that makes it easy to have videos and stuff. It features stuff like channels, HLS playback support, automatic timestamps, a PeerTube import script, and if you activate gts-conduit support, comments on videos from your GoToSocial instance channeled via gts-conduit. These and more detailed here:
It’ll never be on Rubygems due to DHH.
