#Pixelfed has officially released API documentation for devs, and this is really good news!

developers.pixelfed.org/api

Many #Fedilab users also have a Pixelfed account. The work of the Pixelfed team on this documentation is greatly appreciated, and I was waiting for it.

Updating Fedilab with it will be a priority, as the app has always supported Pixelfed with its own layout.

#Fedilab has always let you write in Markdown (MD) with your instance’s converter and displays the resulting HTML, visible to everyone.
It also has its own MD rendering, which works on any instance, but only between Fedilab users. It was turned off long ago as it could break HTML formatting.
Now fixed: only real MD markers are converted and HTML stays intact. Search for “Markdown” in the settings to enable it.

Should it be enabled by default again?

RE: toot.fedilab.app/@apps/…

To be clearer, #Fedilab has been unpublished and is waiting for full removal.
You can’t search for it anymore, but if you already installed it, you can still find it at play.google.com/store/…

Google’s last reply, a few weeks ago, was that they need time. I want to delete my account, but first I need to remove my apps, and they refuse. That’s why, as a European, I asked them to respect my rights under the GDPR.

Fedilab Apps @apps@toot.fedilab.app To those wondering about the future of #Fedilab: although I did everything I could to leave the Play Store, I still haven't received a reply to my GDPR request, sent weeks ago. The app has not been removed, so it still appears as an app that accepts Google's rules. That's not my goal. If the freedom to get apps is over

The app has not been removed, so it still appears as an app that accepts Google’s rules. That’s not my goal. If the freedom to get apps is over, I want Fedilab to go with it. But Google keeps the app. Developers are being held hostage, be aware.

FediHood came first in the poll. Many of you voted to support my projects, and I want to make good use of it.
Idea: a timeline in #Fedilab with public posts from people and #Lemmy groups near you, relying entirely on #FediHood and its API.

It would be opt-in and only available in the Fedilab app, with no new account. You can read any city without sharing your location. You only share your city to post nearby, and only when you want.

Would this be useful?

• Yes, it would be useful
• No, I would not use it

Three timeline functions in #Fedilab that some might not know:

  1. Long-press on standard or list timelines for additional filters (for example, self-replies). (see image)
  2. Long-press on a hashtag to follow or filter it.
  3. Long-press on interaction buttons to interact using another account of yours (if you have only two, you will not be asked which account to use; quotes are not supported yet - see issue 121).

The menu described in the first trick, and an arrow pointing to the Home timeline symbol to indicate where to long-press.

I decided to take a break, because coding became a competition with myself, releasing quickly to satisfy people using #Fedilab and my other projects.
But that is the trap. I gave a lot, hoping people would keep enjoying my projects.
I was looking at it the wrong way. People here are not waiting for results. Building fast and creating things before even suggesting them is not how it works. I should have understood it sooner :)
Definitely taking that break.

Still off coding, but I keep an eye on the #Fediverse. I asked #Pixelfed twice where to find the documentation for their API endpoints so I could implement them in #Fedilab. I never got a reply.
Today, they published new app versions, but the commit only changes a README file. Honestly, it’s frustrating. I like to add new features quickly so people can enjoy them, but here I just can’t.
Well, see you soon.

#Fedilab has left the Google Play Store.

You can update your Google version manually using the APK files attached to the release notes.

For automatic updates shortly after the release, I recommend switching to Fedilab’s custom F-Droid repository.

See how to do that in the next message of this thread.

Hey @pixelfed@mastodon.social,
I am not sure where to find the API docs, especially for the endpoints that differ from the Mastodon API. I would like to support them in #Fedilab. Thank you for your work!

#Fedilab 3.45.0 has been published!

It brings several improvements and fixes. You can now add a colored mark next to avatars in timelines to easily identify content from some accounts. Large media files are automatically resized to what your instance supports. You can also publish directly from the message preview feature.

There are also many fixes, especially a lot of work on catching gaps in the Home timeline.

I recently asked if you would be interested in seeing #Fedilab support new #Fediverse software.
You welcomed #Loops and #Vernissage, and some of you told me not to give up on #FediHood.

Over to you. Your answers will decide which API Fedilab supports next.

• Loops
• Vernissage
• Fedihood

I had announced that I would add #FediHood support to #Fedilab.
I won’t (at least for now) because this #Fediverse project didn’t find its audience.
It could be a good add-on to existing projects, but it might not need its own dedicated software on the Fediverse.
I don’t see it as a misstep in my contributions, but it’s important to remain realistic.

Scheduling boosts or threads with #Fedilab can be unreliable because it’s an in-app feature that depends on the device (offline, idle mode, etc.).

But I could add an optional service to handle this on a server, using an independent token that you can revoke at any time (from the app or the web).
For security, tokens would be revoked if nothing is scheduled and nothing new is added for a month.

Would you be interested?

• Yes, I would use it
• No, I wouldn’t trust it

Just a reminder for people using #Mastodon compatible software: you can add a media description to your profile and header pictures. #Fedilab lets you add them through your profile.

To see descriptions from other accounts, tap their profile or header picture to open it, then tap it again to display the media description.

People who love photography in the #Fediverse are probably already aware of #Vernissage, an open source photo-sharing project.

It has its own API, but like I did with #Misskey a few months ago, I think I could bring it to #Fedilab.
The idea is to support its endpoints and map the responses to what the app already uses, especially since Fedilab has a media-only view.

What do you think?

• Yes, nice idea
• No, Fedilab has other priorities
• No opinion

Fedilab Apps @apps toot.fedilab.app

If you have an app that relies on alternative frontends such as #Invidious, #Nitter and others, it’s often hard to maintain a list of instances. I had that problem with #UntrackMe and #CastLab, so a CI job now runs every day to maintain a list of available instances.

I might add support for this to #Fedilab.
