😅 just in time before shutting down the computer I’m happy with today’s #FreeCADfriday project: a hard shell battery case for my #velomobile – capacity display and cable protection included.

This #FreeCADFriday I have a - 0% AI generated - aerator unscrewer aide for easier cleaning of your faucets.
@freecad@social.freecad.org Hey hey! I made an alternative housing for my Fritzbox 6820 LTE router that is mounted in a small distribution box in my garden.
Even the small part that directs the light from the LEDs on the circuit board to the slits on the side of the housing works great. I filled it with transparent hot glue that redirects the light very good.
For todays #FreeCADFriday I can show this mockup of a NIM Module made at work.
In the next step, the green PCB will be replaced with a proper one exported from #KiCad so I can make the required modifications/holes in the orange front-plate.
This was made using the assembly workbench - its my first project using assembly in FreeCAD
On this #freecadfriday I’d like to thank the @freecad@social.freecad.org CM for highlighting the debate here on the use of AI in Freecad’s code! It almost seems like a personal stance… 👍
I’m fascinated by #PiDP11 software, looking forward to buy the proper hardware.
For now I built myself a case, modeled in #FreeCAD around STEP-files of a #RaspberryPi and a 7” HDMI display. The design is inspired by #DEC #VT100 terminals common in the late ‘70s.
The thing hangs on the door of a cabinet in my office, it will be degraded to a simple monitor as soon as I get the #PiDP case. It has a similar size and will hang at the same door.

Here’s the finished, 3D printed product!
This thing is seriously sturdy.
I had previously printed a similar version from makerworld but it wasn’t strong enough to hold my glasses, and if you drive over a speed bump - the sun glasses were dropped to the floor!
You can see how I modeled the cutout for the nose section here:
This was by far the hardest part. I attempted to “pad” the area out multiple times but was hit with the dreaded “wire not closed” error.
In the end I drew an inverse shape and used “pocket” to remove material.
A little late for #FreeCADFriday but here’s what I designed and printed this week:
A magnetic holder, to keep my sunglasses safe in the car.
My car has a (disguised) metal plate hidden beside the steering wheel - so you can add your own magnetic flair.
Well apparently I’m following up on this on actual #FreeCADFriday this time, unlike last week’s post. Last week’s custom typecase tray was almost right!
The cells weren’t quite wide/tall enough; I had more of some characters than I realized because I’d never sorted them before…I had more other characters than I realized that I had to jumble together in a few cells each, so I really wanted more cells. The cells weren’t quite deep enough either! The tool tray in the back was perfect, though! The fact that I’d made this highly parametric came in handy. In fact, the only thing I hadn’t made parametric I had to make parametric this time around!
It is even closer to square, and it’s printing now. I didn’t print the lid last time, so I am not wasting that material anyway.
This nearly broke me, and definitely broke FreeCAD multiple times, but I have made a working iris, animated in the assembly workbench. #FreeCADfriday #3dprinting #FreeCAD
Fantastic to see people playing with the 26.3 first release candidate this #FreeCADFriday.

Now that the navigation light fits and works on my Alpha W9 #velomobile, I take this #FreeCADfriday to build a taller (more than twice as high) and somewhat sturdier version for the Strada Velomobile. I do this in #FreeCAD 26.3.0RC1, which works fine so far.
(Though I very much hope, issue #32955 will make it into 26.3 release.)
It’s #FreeCADFriday and in case you didn’t notice we announced the 26.3 release candidate! As ever post what you are working on with #FreeCAD but huge extra kudos if you are testing 26.3 RC1! blog.freecad.org/2026/…
Every year at #Christmas, my father-in-law builds a very large nativity scene with antique figurines in his #church. The figurines have wooden joints, some broken over the years.
He asked if I could 3D-print replacement parts.
Modeling them in #FreeCAD went quickly, printing them took significantly longer.
#FreeCADFriday @freecad@social.freecad.org
I don’t actually get to do a lot of FreeCAD on Fridays, so #FreeCADFriday isn’t much my thing. But we have a hot foil embosser and a type set for it, and the type came jumbled in a few small ziplock bags without any clear organization, so it’s a right pain to set up, hunting for the letters.
We sorted all the type alphabetically and numerically, but we just don’t have any suitable trays for holding the type.
There are not enough characters to need a standard typecase layout with space for a lot of E’s, so a rectangular grid is fine. We need at least 64 spaces, plus a space to hold all the tools. I didn’t like what 8x8 looked like, so I went with 7x10 which gives a few extra spaces; 0-9 at the top, then upper case plus four extra spaces (can use that for spacing blocks), then lower case plus four extra spaces (can use that for the vertical bar). The larger space at the top is big enough for all the tools. Then a lid slides over the top and locks to a chamfer around the bottom.
At the front, there’s a place to reach in and grab the front of the lid to pull it off, and at the back there’s a fingernail grip slot underneath to pull the tray out.
The tray is going to be a 7-hour print even on a fast printer. The lid should be noticeably faster! I’ll probably have to fettle them with a file to get the right interface, but that’s OK.
I started this design with a VarSet, which made it pretty easy to iterate on details until we were satisfied. Almost every constraint is derived from a VarSet parameter.
(If I get very ambitious, I can put labels at the back of each type cell for its intended content. But I probably will be too lazy for that and just recite the alphabet. We don’t use this a lot.)

Design and #3dprinting of last week’s #FreeCADfriday project is done. The wire stranding machine is now working. 🥳

@freecad@social.freecad.org @concretedog@mastodon.social @FLOSSK@mastodon.cloud I’ve finished the second version of the mounting panels for the bags on my Bullitt cargo bike, and it works just as I expected :))
