Sorry to disagree with you there… but the Berlin office is definitely nicer!
Do you have a traditional office where everybody works or do you guys do remote work too?
We have multiple offices around Europe! But everyone can work wherever they can deliver the best outcome. Often that has to be in an office (access to hardware / other people), other times it’s at home.
Can you share (I don’t know if you are allowed to talk about this) a little bit about the company culture? How does it feel to work there?
It’s a very dynamic company! A ton of talented people, being hired and treated like adults, working on a very important mission.
I’ve been at companies where you have leadership try to micro-manage everything and everyone, and be paranoid at all stages.
In Helsing, for now, there is a ton of trust and everyone is given a lot of autonomy to deliver what needs delivering. It’s extremely refreshing, because it also means I can go on holiday and not worry that stuff won’t get done.
There’s also so many products we’re working on, each and every one of them super interesting and with its own challenges.
Is it difficult work? Yes.
Is it rewarding work? Yes.
Is it sometimes difficultly rewarding? Also yes.
Also the London office is better than the other offices and right now nobody can disagree with me.
Also a little bit about where I work.

“The CA-1 Europa is taking shape. In Bavaria, inside a manufacturing facility with its own airfield, our team at Helsing and Grob Aircraft is building the first autonomous combat aircraft designed and produced in Germany, for Europe.
We announced CA-1 in September 2025 and our partnership with HENSOLDT in February 2026. The program is on schedule. Maiden flight comes next year.
Today we’re showing you the initial construction phase: the wings.”

Hmm… wondering if a Youtube thumbnail feature would be useful. I’ll create an issue soon (TM).
People never want to tell you the secrets to long-lasting relationships, or to long-lasting software.
But getting married has unlocked both of them for me.
In this essay I explain what marriage taught me about SaaS software development.

A good relationship, just like good software, needs maintenance. Take care for vulnerabilities, identify and tackle issues together, do some periodic health checks.
“It just works” can only last so long without a bit of care.

Consider what your most important data is. If you can’t filter your users quickly with a DB index, or you can’t recall your anniversary, that will make everyone unhappy, even if you eventually end up getting the correct result out.

Always be exclusive with your partner, just like objects need to be exclusive to the thread currently writing to it. Race conditions will ruin both relationships and software.

Krass.
Ha, I remember doing a brief audit of what was using all my data over a longer trip and I found so many background apps that were just happily talking to random servers for no benefit to me, but quickly taking up entire GBs of data.
I also soon after discovered Shizuku and Canta to start forcefully uninstalling various packages from my phone. (Use with care)
A couple of days ago @morosanmihail ask me to tackle the language problem for posts. It is deployed. Please give it a try at vutuv.de/settings/feed_languages
You can define the languages of posts you want to read. In addition you can get an auto translated version of every other language.

Haha, I don’t think it was me, but I will happily take the credit if nobody else does.
Ich habe bei vutuv einige WebPerformance-Optimierungen vorgenommen. Würde mich mal interessieren, ob man das auch in Deutschland spürt. Für mich - heute hier in Windhoek - ist das ein Unterschied wie Tag und Nacht.
Time to bring my high-brow, super intellectual posts from LinkedIn here. You have been warned.
So, how many engineers does it take to change a light bulb at Microsoft? None, the light socket itself is down for maintenance.

Got @mariya_hristova to join as #6000. The Jobs page looks mighty empty and I think she might want to start populating that.
Mihail, the datetime locales format feature is online at vutuv.de/settings/preferences
Please give it a test drive. Thanks for the idea/input!
I appreciate your help! It is a long way till we reach the tipping point.
It will definitely be an uphill journey, but at least the competition is actively imploding itself with trash. So there’s always hope that people will go towards consumer-friendly platforms.
