Friday Tools: I thought I’d share some lesser-known or fairly well-known projects that are absolute #bangers. (￣▽￣)ノ Whether it’s a website, software, or hardware I find useful and think might come in handy for you. And feel free to share your tool of the week, too!
The first tool I’d like to share is Winutil by Chris Titus, a Windows utility you run from PowerShell that lets you configure and debloat the operating system in three clicks. Super handy for those of us who, like me, are “the computer experts” in the family 😬. (Or for anyone who needs a secondary Windows installation.) Go give it a try—it’s really good!

Great article by Calif, who discovered the PHP2Shell vulnerability (in parallel with and independently of Wiz, with the help of GPT‑5.6 Sol as part of OpenAI’s “Patch the Planet”).

Fair, and yes the patch is what actually closes it, no arg there :) But they did more than warn: WAF rules pushed overnight + the vulnerable PHP feature disabled server-side this morning. That’s real exposure reduction and that’s why i’m happy :) while we wait for the fix landing today. That’s worth a shout-out.

A little gem I discovered a few days ago: Helium Browser. It’s been a long time since I last used a Chromium browser. I’ve been on team Firefox/LibreWolf for ages. But honestly, it’s a real pleasure to use: simple, straightforward, no fuss, and very fast.
Heads up for UpdraftPlus users: TeamUpdraft has confirmed unauthorized access to their systems that may have exposed UpdraftCentral connection keys, allowing an attacker to drop a backdoor on sites via Updraft Central. If you use Updraft, check for any unknown plugin that was installed (e.g. “Image Core”), delete your UpdraftCentral connection keys, change your passwords, and update the extension.
