Das einzige kleine Problem: Für mich sieht diese Szene aus wie öffentlicher Grund. Wenn das stimmt, dann ist diese Videoüberwachung schlicht illegal. Und das wäre sie schon, wenn sie nur eigener Nutzung diente. Sie versehentlich (?) auch noch weltweit im Internet erreichbar zu machen, ist dann nur noch die Kirsche auf der Sahnehaube.

It’s great when brave journalists like the team at @404mediaco@mastodon.social takes on tech-bro abusers. Their reporting inspired a massive uprise against @protonprivacy@mastodon.social and their CEO, Andy Yen.
In response, Andy threw together an all-hands to say the following:
“I want to acknowledge myself, personally, that there was a communication failure on my part and there are many things that probably could and should have been communicated differently, and this is something that I’ll have to reflect on and improve over time.”
He “probably could” have said things differently. And he has to “reflect on and improve” his toxicity “over time.”
Those are words from someone who was pressured by shareholders and investors to right a wrong. Not someone who feels remorse.
This is the power we have, folks. Some abusers seem very resilient. But most crumble when we rise together.
Stay loud. Ditch faulty products by faulty companies. Tell ‘em. 💪🏻

The more I think about it, the more this makes me angry.
I dumped Proton when Yen blathered about the GOP being better for privacy… Glad I did even though it was disappointing to have to move email addresses again.
For those shopping for email providers, I use Posteo. At the time I was looking at them, AI hadn’t quite been shoved everywhere yet so I didn’t ask them their policy. posteo.de/en
I wrote support to ask what I could tell those who are considering Posteo now about what their AI policy is. This was the reply:

I have had jobs with leadership who treat people like this. It damages your health (mental, physical, and emotional).
And in a market like ours, I suspect there are a lot of people at Proton who have pits in their stomachs. They’re expressing their pain to their partners, or kids, or friends. Feeling trapped.
This is what emotional abuse, toxic masculinity, and tech-bro capitalism look like. I’m tired of people thinking ethics and technology aren’t intersectional. They are.

A @protonprivacy@mastodon.social employee cautioned against releasing new code that wasn’t properly tested. Andy Yen responded to all Proton employees:
“That’s bullshit and loser thinking. Of course it’s possible to be fast and secure. Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster. Only losers think like that. Stop lovingly handcrafting all our code and use AI more.”
Some of us keep warning folks to avoid Proton. Unfortunately, others, like trusted source @privacyguides@neat.computer, ignore the red flags and recommend it anyway. If you use Proton, you’re at risk.

Deutsche Geheimdienste bleiben bei Google
Ist denn das zu fassen? Die drei deutschen Geheimdienste BND, MAD und Verfassungsschutz wollen eine gemeinsame Cloud verwenden, die von Google bereitgestellt wird! Begründung: Sie brauchen eine gemeinsame Plattform, damit sie auch eingestufte Dokumente untereinander teilen können. Das Ziel ist ja verständlich, aber die Frage ist: Mit einer souveränen europäischen oder gar deutschen Cloud-Lösung ginge das nicht? Mit gesundem Menschenverstand ist diese Entscheidung nicht nachvollziehbar - außer man unterstellt weitere Motive.

They seem to absolutely love/adore Google, Apple, and Amazon. So much that they even hide the APK page on their website and only promote Google Play Store or App Store. Try find it on their website without using a search engine. Spoiler: you will fail.
And when you finally find the download APK page, Signal states it is “safer and easier” to get Signal on Google Play Store or the App Store. Easier? Yes. But safer? Only in your dreams.
They love/adore Google and Apple so much that creating an account without a phone number requires you to give your full legal name, home address, phone number, and credit card information to either Google or Apple (depending on what device you use).
And Signal love privacy and values yours, too. Oh, the irony.
So no, I would not recommend Signal other than Signal Protocol. Good news: OMEMO (the encryption method in XMPP) uses Signal Protocol. So with that said, I recommend XMPP instead of the Big Tech loving Signal.

In UK we see that people who bought a new iPhone had to verify their age using their ID card to get unrestricted access to the device as David Bombal explains in this short.
We see that baselines are shifting, slowly. Once we are used to it, the next step is about to follow. Today it’s age verification. C’mon, it doesn’t hurt. It’s done very quick, you only need your ID, once….

Palantir und Chatkontrolle
Die aggressive Ausbreitung von Palantir erinnert mich irgendwie an eine gewisse selbst ernannte Kirche. Palantir scheint extrem gute “Argumente” und/oder im Hintergrund einflussreiche Fürsprecher zu haben. Aber glücklicherweise sind noch nicht alle auf den Palantir-Zug gesprungen.
