Canva is bringing its Affinity software to Linux, saying that an official build for the platform is now in ‘active development’.
Affinity is free, but not open-source software, offering raster, vector, photo processing and publishing tools in a unified app.

Hey followers! I’m currently part-time contracting at the wonderful convocation.design where I get to work on internet freedom and privacy/security projects but I’m also looking for other projects to fill me days that I’m not working for Convocation.
If y’all have projects where you need a designer who has worked on complex UI systems, typically for skill-proficient people, and want more usable and accessible to non-proficient users then I’m your designer/researcher!

I’ve worked primarily on privacy, security, civic tech, open science, open source software tools and the digital rights space for over 8 years and I’ve worked on commercial/proprietary tech for another 6 years, totally over 15 years of designing for people across technology. I’m a detailed user researcher and typically employ a ‘just enough’ research approach to make meaningful changes to user bases of tools.

What a trip. I just found this old photo. It was taken in Barcelona circa 2014. The four of us here were all speakers at a conference called Webvisions.
I’m sitting next to the legendary @leaverou@front-end.social, whose name was unfamiliar to me at the time. Now, of course, I and many other front-end developers know her name. Or at least should.

I’ve never been a Digital Ocean customer. But they’re really taking a nose dive right now.
First, they offer healthy financial support for the fascist Linux project, otherwise known as Omarchy. Now they’re killing one of the best CSS resources around, @csstricks@mastodon.social.
How are they killing it? Well, they’re giving SO much money to fascism that they can no longer afford the small potatoes of a CSS community knowledge base.
As @eric@social.ericwbailey.website points out, so many of us front-end developers are indebted to CSS Tricks. The authors there have been invaluable to my own skillset.
